We have an exciting opportunity to join our Respiratory Outpatients Department, providing vital support to our specialist Biologics Service.

In this varied and rewarding role, you will work with a high degree of autonomy under the guidance of a Senior Respiratory Nurse Specialist. Acting as the key link between patients, the clinical team and a range of internal and external services, you will help ensure a smooth and coordinated experience for everyone involved.

You will also play an important role in supporting the wider Respiratory Nurse Specialist Team — coordinating clinics, organising and minuting multidisciplinary meetings, and managing enquiries through our open‑access advice line.

Main duties of the job

• Directing patients through the Biologic Service pathway to ensure the patients are assessed and followed up, and that prescribed treatments are initiated through the pharmacy homecare team in a timely manner.

Offering education support to patients guiding them through their treatment plan and required steps.

Providing all of the administrative and coordination support for the service, including the management of the Blueteq database, administrative management of patient prescriptions, support for outpatient clinics and tracking of changes as novel biologic treatments are introduced.

Liaising closely with patients, internal and external stakeholders to ensure all elements of the pathway are followed, kept on track within the prescribed plan of care and early detection of risks that may deviate the care plan for the patient.

The role is fast paced, requiring a driven, self-motivated, disciplined individual to work alongside the senior team and other departments to ensure the effective running of the service and continual improvement of the Biologics Service.

The post holder will co-ordinate clinics, organise and minute multi disciplinary meetings and manage enquires from an open access advice line. The post holder will provide essential administrative work such as audio typing, appointment booking, filing, photocopying and scanning.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

Planning & Organisation

Work closely with the medical and biologics nursing teams to coordinate day‑to‑day service activity, including scheduling patients, preparing clinics and ensuring investigations and questionnaires are up to date. Liaise with clinicians when plans need adjusting, gather patient feedback to support decision‑making and manage key administrative tasks such as prescriptions, registration paperwork and MDT documentation. Coordinate MDT meetings, record accurate outcomes and keep patients and stakeholders fully informed. Contribute to service improvements, solve problems proactively and carry out general admin duties including audio typing and managing enquiries via the advice line.

Communication

Handle frequent patient calls with professionalism and emotional intelligence, adapting communication styles and escalating concerns when needed. Provide clear, sensitive information about treatment and appointments, encourage engagement with care plans and maintain excellent communication with all stakeholders. Produce accurate written correspondence and exercise judgement when handling queries.

Technology, Audit & Research

Use Trust clinical systems confidently, liaise with external providers within IG/GDPR requirements, and collect data for audit and research. Support appropriate patient involvement in research studies.

Financial

Prepare and update funding requests on Blueteq, identify opportunities to improve efficiency and waste reduction, and support communication around biosimilar treatment changes.

Learning & Development

Help patients understand their treatment pathway, support colleagues providing biologics cover, delegate tasks appropriately and maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of biologic agents. Participate in training, follow Trust policies, use conflict‑resolution skills effectively and commit to ongoing personal development.
