Contract Type: Fixed Term Maternity Cover (July 2026 – May 2027)
Location: Homebased with regular UK travel
Salary: £42,000 – £45,200 (depending on experience)
Grade: AT4
The British Horseracing Authority is the governing and regulatory body for horse racing in Great Britain. It is BHA’s role to act for and on behalf of the whole sport, ensuring that the highest standards apply on and away from the racecourse.
This is a great opportunity to join the BHA Safeguarding and Human Welfare team to support and administer the day-to-day safeguarding function, ensuring the BHA and British horseracing industry achieves and maintains the highest safeguarding standards.
The successful candidate will have substantial experience in similar roles, including supporting serious and complex safeguarding and human welfare related risk assessments alongside investigations, and advising on suitable interim measures and preparing cases for disciplinary hearings. You will maintain timely and effective communication with all relevant parties, as well as experience of the referral process with police and other authorities.
Championing safeguarding in our sport you will act as the first point of contact for safeguarding and human welfare reports, issues, and queries. You will have strong interpersonal skills, a proven ability to work successfully with a wide range of stakeholders and success in influencing change. You will be diplomatic, have a dynamic collaborative approach and a high level of integrity. An understanding of the requirements and challenges around appropriate information sharing for safeguarding purposes is also essential.
You will also be required to lead the delivery of education programmes and contribute to the development of policies, practices, and procedures, specifically the BHA Safeguarding Policy, Regulations and Code of Conduct. You will administer the online learning programmes to licensed personnel and stakeholders, coordinate and deliver ‘in person’ education sessions to participants, capturing data to demonstrate progress, as well as identifying and developing future programmes.
