Some key information
- Normal working hours for this role are full-time 37 hours a week, Monday to Friday during standard office hours. However, candidates should be prepared to work outside these hours as required by business needs. Somerset Council’s dynamic Working Strategy applies to this position; the successful candidate will follow a hybrid working arrangement across various locations within Somerset. The post holder may also need to change work sites during the course of the working day.

- £32,597 to £36,363 per annum
What will I be doing?
We’re working to improve the lives of people in Somerset – and you’ll be a key part of that. Your day-to-day work will involve:
- Providing a proactive, and responsive service in all aspects of health, safety, and welfare at work,
- Undertaking audits and inspections of educational and corporate premises or activities,
- Supporting the H&S Management team with a range of initiatives and projects to embed a culture of safety in Somerset Council.
- Providing consistent professional advice and guidance pertaining to the management of Health, Safety and Fire legislation, and professional standards in line with policies and procedures
- Review and where necessary further investigate health and safety incidents reported on our H&S management system.
What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?
We offer ongoing support, training and guidance to help you be the best you can be. But it will really help if you:
- Hold a NEBOSH General Certificate, or equivalent qualification.
- Have experience working in local government delivering a health and safety function across corporate and educational settings,
- Have an established knowledge and understanding of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974
- Hold an interest in the topics of fire safety and / or construction safety are desirable.
- Have the ability to travel Countywide.
