Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Specialist Sarcoma Service at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS), as the Lead Nurse for the diagnostic service.

We are looking for an individual who has gained knowledge and experience appropriate to caring for patients with Sarcoma with the skills to provide clinical and professional leadership around the development of specialist sarcoma services. You would be working with a compassionate and motivated multi professional team who work innovatively and place patients at the heart of all that they do. The field of sarcoma is developing at a rapid rate.

As a University Teaching Hospital clinical and qualitative research is central to our cancer service. You would be included and would be expected to lead/collaborate on research projects. The diagnostic service at UHS receives referrals primarily from Southampton and surrounding areas, Salisbury and the Isle of Wight.

The sarcoma service undertakes surgical management for some patients with soft tissue sarcoma as well as providing the full range of specialist non-surgical treatments for patients from the Wessex region with soft tissue and bone sarcomas, in collaboration with surgical teams at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital Stanmore, The Royal Marsden Hospital, and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre Oxford. Person specification

Qualifications, Knowledge And Experience

Essential criteria

  • Registered nurse on relevant part of NMC register
  • Educated to master’s degree level or equivalent level of knowledge to be assessed through evidence of relevant speciality training, experience or portfolio
  • Post graduate speciality specialist training.
  • Evidence of on-going personal and professional development
  • Extensive clinical experience of working within chosen speciality
  • Previous experience of working at band 7 level
  • Post Registration experience and proven evidence of leadership or change management
  • Broad awareness of wider Trust initiatives / pressures
  • Evidence of ability to change or initiate practice

Desirable criteria

  • Psychological Assessment course
  • Teaching and presentation aptitude or courses
