Job Title: SC Cleared Backend Developer (Java/Spring)
Contract Length: 12-month contract (with scope to extend)
Location: Remote, UK Based
Start Date: Immediate
Clearance Required: Must hold active SC Clearance
We are seeking a strong Backend Developer with proven experience building Java-based microservices. The successful candidate will work within an agile engineering team contributing to the design, development, and maintenance of scalable backend services.
The role focuses on delivering reliable services built on modern engineering practices such as test-driven development, containerisation, and continuous integration and deployment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain microservices using Java and Spring Boot
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code following TDD principles
- Develop containerised applications using Docker
- Work with relational databases such as Postgres and contribute to database design and optimisation
- Support the development and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product, QA, and DevOps engineers
- Participate in agile ceremonies and contribute to continuous improvement of engineering practices
Required Skills and Experience
- Strong commercial experience with Java and Spring Boot
- Experience working with microservice architectures
- Solid experience with relational databases such as Postgres or other SQL databases
- Hands-on experience with Docker or containerised environments
- Experience implementing test-driven development using frameworks such as JUnit or Mockito
- Experience working with CI/CD pipelines such as Jenkins
- Comfortable working in agile, collaborative engineering teams
Desirable Skills
- Experience with Kafka or event-driven architectures
- Experience working with API specifications such as Swagger / OpenAPI
- Familiarity with Gradle build tooling
- Experience with Liquibase or database migration tooling
- Exposure to React or Typescript
