Data Integration Architect - Primary Care Data,


Rate: Negotiable

Duration: 6-month contract and extendable

Location: Remote with occasional travel to Bath or other sites


Data Integration Architect with strong primary care data domain expertise to lead the design and delivery of scalable, secure, and interoperable data integration solutions.

This role will play a critical part in modernising healthcare data platforms, enabling seamless data flows between GP systems, population health platforms, analytics environments, and downstream clinical and operational services.

Work closely with clinical stakeholders, product teams, engineers, and information governance leads to ensure that data integration supports safe patient care, operational efficiency, and strategic transformation.

Key Responsibilities

Architecture & Design

  • Define end-to-end data integration architectures across primary care, community, and secondary care systems.
  • Design API-led, event-driven, and batch integration patterns to support clinical, operational, and analytical use cases.
  • Create logical and physical integration architectures, data flow diagrams, and interface specifications.
  • Establish integration standards, reference architectures, and reusable patterns.
  • Design sync management logic in InterSystems. Develop ruleset for validation, conflict management, object equivalence in conjunction with integration development teams. Work with development team to extend data model where additional metadata or management attributes required.

    Development of nonfunctional design for data sync, to include:

    • Audit, including query across systems
    • Logging
    • Rate limiting
    • Reliable delivery contract
    • Monitoring & alerting
    • Encryption in transit
    • EHR product update management
    • Endpoint authentication & credential management
    • Analysis of throughput requirements
    • User attribution & nonrepudiation across systems

    Primary Care Data Expertise

    • Lead integration involving GP systems (e.g. appointments, prescribing, encounters, demographics).
    • Model and map primary care data using NHS standards (FHIR, HL7, SNOMED CT, dm+d).
    • Ensure accurate handling of patient identity, registrations, care records, and coding structures.
    • Support population health, quality reporting, and analytics pipelines.

    Delivery Leadership

    • Act as technical authority for integration workstreams across multiple projects.
    • Collaborate with engineering teams to guide implementation and ensure architectural alignment.
    • Support supplier integrations and assure third-party technical designs.
    • Contribute to delivery planning, risk management, and technical decision making.

    Governance, Security & Compliance

    • Ensure solutions comply with NHS information governance, DSPT, GDPR, and clinical safety requirements.
    • Design secure data exchange patterns, including encryption, access control, and auditability.
  • Support clinical safety processes (DCB0129 / DCB0160).
  • Required Experience

    Technical

    • Proven experience as a Data Integration Architect or Lead Integration Engineer
    • Strong background integrating primary care systems
    • Hands-on experience with:
    • API platforms and microservices architectures
    • Message brokers / event streaming
    • ETL / ELT pipelines
    • FHIR-based integrations
    • Experience designing cloud-native data platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
    • Strong data modelling skills (logical, canonical, and physical models)
    • Understanding of master data management and patient identity matching

    Healthcare Domain

    • Deep understanding of UK primary care data flows
    • Practical experience with NHS interoperability standards
    • Familiarity with GP data structures (appointments, consultations, prescriptions, referrals)
    • Knowledge of population health and analytics use cases

    Desirable Skills

    • Experience modernising legacy healthcare platforms
    • Exposure to population health management or integrated care systems
    • Infrastructure as Code (Terraform / CloudFormation)
    • CI/CD for data and integration pipelines
    • Experience working in agile delivery environments
    • TOGAF or equivalent architecture frameworks
