Permanent

Grade A - £24,796 - £26,824 pro rata

Consultation grade - subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review

Working 8 hours per week, term time only - working time to be confirmed but will be around school drop off and collection times

We have opportunities for School Crossing Patrol Wardens at various locations across Birmingham. The vacancies require morning and afternoon working on a term-time basis.

Opportunities Are Currently Available At

Yenton Primary School - Erdington

Crossing location: Holly Lane at Orphanage Road

8.00 hours per week

Hollywood Primary, Highters Heath Lane

Crossing location: Highters Heath Lane at Pickenham Road

8.00 hours per week

About The Role

As a School Crossing Patrol Warden, you will:

  • Assist children and adults to safely cross the road at designated sites during school term time.
  • Manage traffic by following the correct crossing procedures and displaying the authorised sign as required by law.

  • This is a highly responsible role that directly supports the safety and wellbeing of Birmingham’s school communities.

    What We’re Looking For

    You don’t need previous experience—full training is provided—but you must be able to demonstrate:

    • Experience working with children or the public.
    • Excellent communication skills with children, parents, and drivers.
    • A friendly, approachable manner and strong customer‑care skills.
    • Reliability, good timekeeping, patience, honesty, and responsibility.
    • Ability to follow instructions and work within set guidelines.
    • Initiative and a proactive approach to problem‑solving.
    • Flexibility to provide cover across different sites when needed.
    • Ability to work independently and remain calm under pressure.
    • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
    • Able to stand for long periods and move briskly in and out of the road.
    • Special conditions:

    Due to the intrinsic nature of the work of a School Crossing Patrol Warden, and the identifiable health and safety risks involved, this post falls within the exception to the statutory bar on requesting pre-employment health information.
