Scientist – Cell Potency / Bioassay

Due to continued growth and increasing client demand within our Cell Potency function in Manchester, Intertek is recruiting for a Scientist – Cell Potency / Bioassay to support the delivery of GMP-regulated bioassay and cell-based testing programmes within our expanding biopharmaceutical services business.


ABOUT YOU

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Cell Potency team as a Scientist, supporting continued growth within the business. As a Scientist, you will have strong communication skills and will work collaboratively with key members of the team. You will be proactive, solutions-focused, and demonstrate an understanding of Client expectations and how your work contributes to both scientific and commercial outcomes.


We need you to have:


  • BSc or MSc in Biology, Chemistry or a related scientific discipline (essential)
  • Practical experience in cell culture techniques
  • Experience working with cell-based assays, including cell potency or functional assays
  • Understanding of assay execution, data generation and analysis
  • Exposure to working in a GMP and/or other GxP regulated laboratory environment (desirable)
  • Good attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality and compliance

  • ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

    Working within a diverse environment, this role will provide the opportunity to utilise your skills and knowledge as an independent Scientist within the Cell Potency team. You will support a variety of projects that vary in scale, scope and complexity, contributing to routine testing as well as assay development, optimisation and validation activities under appropriate guidance

    You will be involved in:


    • Practical laboratory work supporting cell-based potency bioassays, including cell culture and assay execution
    • Performing assays covering one or more endpoints such as cell proliferation, activation, viability or functional response
    • Supporting cell potency and cell-based assay activities in line with study plans and SOPs
    • Working with plate-based bioassays and, where applicable, techniques such as ELISA, flow cytometry or PCR-based methods
    • Providing analytical services to customers within the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical sectors in a GMP / GxP regulated laboratory
  • Supporting method development, optimisation and validation in accordance with industry guidance
  • Accurately documenting experimental work, results and deviations in line with regulatory expectations
  • Working with biopharmaceutical products such as monoclonal antibodies, peptides and cell or gene therapies
  • Contributing to troubleshooting activities and continuous improvement within the laboratory
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues and supporting knowledge sharing within the team
