The Security manager (Personnel) role ensures SGN has a system of policies and procedures which seeks to mitigate the risk to employees, agency or contractors (insiders) and SGN assets. In addition, the role also seeks to prevent the same group of people from exploiting their positions within SGN, either through direct attack or third-party coercion, to promote or facilitate any unauthorised access or malicious intent.

This includes SGN’s Critical National Infrastructure, its offices/depots and all associated locations and staff. They are responsible for the daily management of physical and personnel security throughout SGN’s portfolio, including but not limited to, investigations, security updates and presentations, security project management and stakeholder engagement to deliver, challenge and support this.

They are responsible for the security of our occupied sites to ensure that all staff feel in a safe and secure environment in which to work, and our unoccupied operational assets to ensure the safe supply of gas.

We deliver safety, warmth, and comfort to homes and businesses. Every role, whether in the office or on the front line, plays a key part in this mission. Here’s how you will contribute…

  • Identify employees requiring National Security vetting, through a roles & risk assessment, liaison with HR and BEIS to complete them and highlight any possible risks to SGN
  • Reduce the risk of insider activity, protect assets and build a good working relationship with other relevant departments through close working and proactive engagement to ensure a dynamic approach
  • Continued revision of policies to ensure identified governance remains relevant i.e. HR, IT Security and Corporate comms internally and externally BEIS, [AS1] NPSA, DESNZ CPNI, CTSA and police
  • Liaising with third parties (e.g. NG, Cadent) and those GDN’s with access to SGN CNI assets and their staff requiring National Security Vetting, to maintain the same level of vetting as our own staff
  • Security Managers are involved in the creation and implementation of the Security Strategy which is reviewed and revised as necessary to address new threats
  • Analysing current Security threats, externally and internally and identifying mitigations balanced against the requirement to maintain business continuity.
  • Implement security measures and/or physical security equipment in a way that is proportionate to the risk or identified threat
  • Deal with any whistleblowing or allegations reported to them and assist with relevant investigations
  • Security managers are expected to manage several Velocity reports in relation to Security incidents. It is the role of the Security Manager to ensure that a thorough investigation has taken place either through the team manager or Security manager and this is evidenced on an Investigation Proforma.
  • Raise awareness of behavioural changes to minimise all opportunities for potential harm by promoting a good security culture through briefings, comms, training to all areas of the business, on current threats.
  • Attend energy sector security forums for shared best practice and any innovations that can be utilised
  • Manage budgets and delivery of any security installations on non-operational assets
  • Identify cost savings i.e. reduction of manned guarding contract from third party providers
  • Briefings and data presentations of regional crime statistics, trends and analysis, directed at Senior management level through to team talk presentations
  • Monitor compliance with implemented processes
  • Produce project progress reports when requested

  • What You Will Need

    • A Policing [AS2] , Military or Corporate Security experience is beneficial.
    • A good understanding of security risks relating to SGN and the wider industry, together with the ability to understand risk assessment methodology is essential.
    • You will have leadership, organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills, and be an effective communicator at all levels.
    • Relevant administrative support experience (i.e. Spreadsheets, Document Creation)
    • You will have the ability to develop strong working relationships with the wider business and external stakeholders.
    • A passion for driving and managing change is important together with the ability to influence those around you to strive for excellence
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, capable and willing to give presentation, you will have a flexible ‘can do’ approach to work
    • You will be operating with sensitive data and your integrity needs to be beyond reproach. You will also be required to be National Security Vetted. This role will require business travel; therefore, a flexible working approach and a clean driving license are essential.
