Senior Associate (5+ PQE) – Energy & Commodities Disputes / International Arbitration
A leading international law firm is seeking to hire a Senior Associate (5+ PQE) into its highly ranked Energy & Commodities Disputes practice in London.
This is an exceptional opportunity for an ambitious disputes lawyer to join a global team known for handling some of the most complex and high-value contentious matters across the international energy and commodities trading markets, including disputes arising from global trading, supply chains and pricing mechanisms.
The Opportunity
This role offers exposure to premium disputes work across the full energy and commodities value chain, with a particularly strong focus on international commodities trading disputes, including:
- High-value commodities trading disputes across oil, LNG, gas, metals, agricultural commodities and refined products
- Disputes arising from physical and derivatives trading, sale contracts, supply agreements and offtake arrangements
- Pricing, quality, delivery and payment disputes under commodity sale contracts
- Trade finance disputes, including disputes involving banks, letters of credit, structured trade finance and collateral arrangements
- Force majeure, sanctions, supply chain disruption and market volatility-related disputes
- Oil & gas, LNG, power and pipeline disputes
- Renewable energy and infrastructure disputes
- Joint venture breakdowns, royalty disputes and JOA disputes
- Regulatory investigations and compliance-driven disputes affecting commodity markets
- High-value international arbitration (LCIA, ICC, SCMA, LMAA, UNCITRAL and others)
- Fraud, asset tracing and enforcement linked to trading and financing arrangements
- Emergency relief, freezing injunctions and enforcement proceedings across multiple jurisdictions
You will work closely with leading Partners on major global mandates, acting for a client base including major commodity trading houses, oil majors, national energy companies, upstream and midstream operators, refiners, banks, funds and private equity investors.
About You
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- 5+ years’ PQE (England & Wales or commonwealth qualified)
- A strong background in commercial litigation and/or international arbitration
- Meaningful exposure to commodities trading disputes, trade finance disputes and energy sector disputes
- Experience advising on disputes involving commodity sale contracts, pricing mechanisms, delivery obligations or supply chain disruption
- Excellent drafting and advocacy skills
- Confidence managing complex matters and working directly with clients
- A commercial mindset and the ability to operate under pressure on fast-moving, high-value disputes
- Strong academic background and a collaborative approach
