Post: Senior Building Surveyor

Location: Remote Working, Based in the South West

Salary Range: NJC Grade I £46,142 - £51,356

Contract Type: Permanent, Full time

Contract Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday


About the role

The Senior Building Surveyor will provide a comprehensive, high quality, solutions focused building surveying service across the Trust. The postholder will contribute to the transformation and continuous improvement of the Reach South estate, in support of the delivery of the Trust’s Strategic Development Plan. The postholder will identify maintenance issues and improvement projects, design and specify solutions, procure building contractors, and administer construction projects across the estate. The postholder will also contribute to the development and maintenance of an asset management plan, along with providing building surveying services in relation to Trust growth and associated due diligence reports. The postholder will advise solutions to maintenance issues, including guidance on associated costs. The role will be based in either Plymouth or Gloucestershire, with regular travel to Trust academies.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead on identifying, designing, and managing construction and maintenance projects across the Trust.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, including the Building Safety Act 2022 and CDM regulations.
  • Prepare and administer JCT Building Contracts and manage service providers.
  • Deliver accurate building condition surveys and provide cost-effective solutions.
  • Develop and maintain a 5-year asset management plan.
  • Support Trust growth by assessing new sites and providing due diligence reports.
  • Mentor and guide site teams, promoting best practice and health & wellbeing at work.


About the successful candidate

The successful candidate will be experienced in Building Surveying within the Education, corporate or non-profit sector, with a focus on customer service and satisfaction through problem resolution.


They will also need to be:

  • Qualified: Degree in Building Surveying or equivalent experience.
  • Experienced: Minimum 5 years post-qualified experience in building surveying, with a proven track record in managing multiple projects and administering JCT contracts.
  • Knowledgeable: Strong understanding of building legislation, health & safety compliance, and procurement processes.
  • Tech-Savvy: Proficient in MS Project, AutoCAD, and Office applications.
  • A Leader: Able to manage budgets, lead meetings, and provide mentorship to team members.
  • Flexible & Positive: A proactive attitude with the ability to travel across Trust sites.

  • Desirable: Membership of RICS or similar professional body.
