About The Role
Balfour Beatty are currently looking for a Senior Design Manager to join their rapidly growing team within Power T&D. The role will be based in Derby on a hybrid working pattern.
Role Purpose
The Senior Design Manager is accountable for a portfolio of Power Transmission and Distribution Engineering projects and their design delivery, management and engineering governance, from initial opportunity, through bid development and contract negotiation, mobilisation and delivery, and finally project completion and archiving.
They will lead, manage, mentor and develop, a team of Design and Engineering Managers, Assistant Engineering Managers, Graduates, Apprentices and Trainees.
They are expected to work closely with the Project Director, or Head Of OPS, and lead positive engagement with internal and external stakeholders to manage the scope risks and programme of their portfolio of projects designs.
The Senior Design Manager has responsibility for the way the team works, leading the selection of the right methods of engagement and processes used on their projects.

- Design management for safe, quality delivery of projects on time and budget
- Hire, train and motivate your team
- Created a culture of innovation and collaboration among engineers
- Scope and Technical change management
- Monthly project reporting
- Seeking opportunities to deliver safer, better, faster and more profitably
- Technical Input to contract negotiations
- Producing and maintaining key project documents
- Ensuring compliance with BB Governance and customer requirements whilst developing and executing engineering strategies to support business objectives
Financial and Resource Allocation
Budget responsibility for portfolio of projects designs of allocated Projects
Manage engineering budgets effectively for a portfolio of allocated project designs
Projects Make recommendations for strategy to follow during the resource allocation to optimize engineering outcomes

- Supporting teams to deliver programs safely, on time, on budget and to a high quality
- Interfacing with internal and external stakeholders
- Good technical grounding, experience and engineering delivery
- Project leadership at a management level, delivering a range of projects from Standard to complex projects
- Experience of working in the UK HV Substations sector and within highly regulated industries
- Experience in managing multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams
