KierBAM are a Joint Venture (JV) partnership between Kier and BAM UK & Ireland. We are currently delivering the redevelopment project at a Royal Navy site located in Plymouth and we are seeking an experienced Senior Design Manager. The Senior Design Manager leads the entire engineering function on projects, overseeing design teams, coordinating with stakeholders, and ensuring delivery of design solutions on time, within budget, and to required quality standards.
(Our Client in their capacity of PC and PD are responsible for the Permanent Works Design, KBJV are responsible for the Temporary Works design and Contractor Design Portions.)
Due to the sensitive nature of the site, BPSS security clearance is required. Please note that this process can take up to 8 weeks.
Eligibility criteria: Candidates must hold a passport from a NATO or MISWG member country and have resided in the UK for the past 5 years.
Making Possible
In this role, you will be working in a live MOD facility. Your day-to-day tasks will include:
Manage and lead design and engineering teams across multiple disciplines, including:
Temporary Works Team
Digital Engineering Team
Concrete and Materials Management Teams
Survey and Monitoring Team
Develop and oversee Temporary Works and CDP design strategies, schedules, and deliverables.
Coordinate required timescales / delivery dates for design activities with KBJV project management and operational delivery teams.
Ensure compliance with contractual, regulatory and quality requirements.
Review and approve design outputs, reports and technical documentation.
Ensure design and engineering team meetings and client focussed presentations are led effectively.
Manage resources, budgets, and risk related to KBJV’s engineering team activities.
Manage and coordinate inter-related engineering team activities.
Mentor and develop design engineering team staff, fostering continuous improvement.
Monitor design and engineering team resourcing against programme and workload, working with KBJV onboarding team to recruit additional SQEP personnel to ensure delivery against project requirements.
Report to project senior leadership team and key stakeholders on a weekly and monthly basis.
Resolve complex technical and managerial challenges.

What do you bring to the role?
Professionally qualified Senior Manager with at least 10 years post profession qualification or 15 years’ experience.
Significant experience in design and engineering leadership roles.
Strong project management and team leadership abilities.
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
A thorough understanding of design processes, procedures and standards.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Desirable
Experience in the Nuclear environment would be considered beneficial.
Proficiency in relevant design and project management software.
