About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Engineer - Design (Structures) to lead the delivery of innovative structures schemes across Derbyshire. This role is central to the design and delivery of complex infrastructure schemes, including bridges, retaining walls, culverts, landslip remediation, and geotechnical investigations.
You will manage complex projects from feasibility through to detailed design, ensuring that all design work meets the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency. Working closely with internal teams and external partners such as Network Rail, the Environment Agency, and the British Geological Survey, you’ll drive innovation, sustainability, and a “right first time” ethos across all projects.
This is a senior technical role requiring strong leadership, advanced design skills, and a commitment to innovation and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and delivery of complex structures schemes.
- Substantial experience in structural design within highways or civil engineering.
- Strong knowledge of relevant design standards.
- Proficiency in CAD and relevant design software.
- Excellent project management and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Commitment to safety, sustainability, and innovation.
- HNC/HND or equivalent in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
- Demonstrable experience managing complex structures projects.
- Membership of professional institutions (e.g., ICE, CIHT, IHE).
- Project management qualifications (e.g., PRINCE2, APM).
- Experience as Principal Designer under CDM regulations.
- Familiarity with NEC contracts and collaborative delivery models.
