Our team

We are a national Banking & Finance Practice Group with an enviable list of clients and transactions to our name. We regularly advise high profile clients, consisting of UK and global financial institutions, private equity houses, funds and corporates on complex domestic and cross-border transactions and are able to utilise our strong domestic and international network of specialists.

The breadth and quality of work that we undertake sets us apart from many of our competitors. On the majority of transactions, we act opposite Magic Circle and large U.S. firms. Many of our Partners and Associates have joined the team from Magic Circle, US and similar high quality finance practices, and work alongside Associates and Partners who have been with the firm from the early stages of their careers.

Our national Banking & Finance Practice Group covers corporate / leverage finance, real estate finance, and debt capital markets. We are looking to build out our practice across the UK and have ambitious plans for growth.

Key areas of focus for the team include:

Corporate and Leverage Finance - we have a wide-ranging practice and represent private equity sponsors, corporate borrowers, and lenders (both banks and private capital providers). We advise on a full range of leveraged situations, M&A, corporate finance, and refinancing, asset-based lending, group re-organisations and debt capital markets work. We work closely with our highly regarded Corporate, Tax, Restructuring and Private Equity teams, and have developed very strong working relationships with a number of well-known and active debt and corporate finance advisers and other law firms active in these markets.

Real Estate Finance - we have one of the leading REF practices in the market, acting for many of the major domestic and international banks as well as alternative lenders and corporate borrowers, on major bilateral, syndicated and structured transactions, and in developing their products. We work closely with our Real Estate, Construction, Corporate, Tax and international teams. This comprehensive network combined with our international finance capability means we are able to advise clients on some of the most significant Real Estate Finance deals in the market

Role and key responsibilities

We have multiple opportunities for Senior Lawyers (4PQE+) to join us in Birmingham, working as part of the national Banking Practice Group to support a broad range of banking transactions across Corporate Finance and Leveraged Finance. The candidate will therefore gain experience of working with private equity sponsors, corporates, banks and funds.

These roles will involve working on a wide range of finance matters and given the breadth of our practice, the candidate will need to have the ability and desire to turn their hand to a range of work. We believe that the variety and experience on offer across a number of specialisms is a positive differentiator.

Team members of all levels are expected to be engaged in business development activities, including organising and attending larger set-piece marketing events as well as more ad hoc / opportunistic meetings.

Key Skills and Experience:

We are looking for candidates who:

• Are currently 4 PQE+
• Looking for a Senior Associate/Prinicipal Associate or Legal Director role
• Have strong experience specifically in Corporate Debt/Leveraged Finance
• Want to work in a highly collaborative and non-hierarchical environment
• Are motivated by delivering a great service for our clients whilst helping to develop business and provide input on training, marketing, knowledge management and other non-transactional activities.
• Are able to work independently as well as with other members of the team
• Have strong client and stakeholder management skills
• Are able to support and develop more junior members of the team as needed
