Senior Process Engineer - Asset Operations Support

Location: Aberdeen

Start Date: ASAP

Contract Type: Contract

Working Pattern: Office based with hybrid flexibility


We are seeking a Senior Process Engineer to provide day-to-day process engineering expertise in support of safe, reliable, and efficient operations across complex hydrocarbon processing assets. This key role will support operations teams, optimise plant performance, resolve operational issues, and provide engineering assurance for modifications, shutdown activities, and capital projects. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, operations, and maintenance personnel to ensure safe and effective asset performance.


Key Responsibilities:

- Deliver daily process engineering support to operational assets, ensuring safe and reliable production.

- Troubleshoot operational issues, uncover root causes, and drive long-term improvements.

- Support production optimisation through engineering studies and performance analysis.

- Contribute process engineering expertise to maintenance planning, shutdown scopes, and asset work plans.

- Support plant modifications through problem definition, technical evaluation, and Management of Change processes.

- Maintain key process engineering documentation including PFDs, P&IDs, heat and mass balances, and equipment data.

- Participate in hazard and risk assessments including HAZOP, LOPA, and operational risk reviews.

- Support incident investigations and root cause analysis to enhance asset reliability and safety.

- Provide process engineering assurance for brownfield projects, maintenance activities, and capital modifications.

- Manage specialist vendors and provide technical input to contractors as required.


Candidate Requirements:

- Degree in Process or Chemical Engineering.

- Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards professional accreditation.

- Strong operational process engineering experience within oil and gas, petrochemical, or chemical processing facilities.

- Track record of providing front-line engineering support to operating assets.

- Solid knowledge of process safety and Major Accident Hazard prevention practices.

- Experience in risk reviews such as HAZOP, LOPA, and process hazard assessments.

- Proficient with engineering documentation such as PFDs, P&IDs, cause and effect charts, and equipment data sheets.

- Experience with process simulation tools (e.g., HYSYS) and data analysis tools (e.g., PI historian).

- Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve complex process issues.

- Comfortable working closely with operations, maintenance, and project teams.


Additional Requirements:

- Willingness and ability to travel offshore as needed.

- Ability to support shutdown planning and execution.

- Strong communication skills and ability to engage stakeholders across technical and operational teams.
