Senior Quantity Surveyor - Heavy Civils


Location: Suffolk

Sector: Civil Engineering | Large Infrastructure Projects

Permanent - Hybrid


We’re working in partnership with a leading civil engineering contractor delivering major infrastructure works in Suffolk. They are looking to appoint an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their project team on a long-term programme of large-scale infrastructure schemes.


This is a high-value, technically complex environment requiring strong NEC contract knowledge, robust cost control capability and confident stakeholder management.


The Role

As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you’ll take responsibility for managing all commercial aspects of allocated civil engineering packages from early-stage cost planning through to final account.

You’ll work closely with senior project staff, subcontractors and client representatives to ensure works are commercially controlled, contractually compliant and delivering value for money while maintaining required quality and safety standards.


Key Responsibilities:


Commercial & Cost Management

  • Full commercial management of designated infrastructure packages
  • Production of detailed Cost Plans and monthly CVRs
  • Analysis of rates, prices and agreement of variations / compensation events
  • Preparation and negotiation of claims where required
  • Financial reporting and reconciliation to senior leadership


Contract Administration (NEC)

  • Administration of NEC3 contracts (Options A, B & C)
  • Management of change control, compensation events and commercial risk
  • Review and interpretation of complex contract programmes
  • Support preparation of delay and disruption programmes where necessary


Procurement & Supply Chain

  • Subcontract procurement including tender analysis and negotiation
  • Preparation of procurement programmes and commercial strategies
  • Ongoing subcontract performance monitoring and cost control


Project & Stakeholder Management

  • Monitor subcontract activities and respond to commercial risk
  • Manage commercial relationships with client and key stakeholders
  • Present commercial performance to regional managers and board-level stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with internal governance and commercial procedures

  • What We’re Looking For:


    • Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering
    • Strong working knowledge of NEC3 (Options A, B & C)
    • Experience delivering complex, high-value infrastructure packages
    • Ability to produce and present robust Cost Plans and CVRs
    • Experience managing or mentoring junior commercial staff
    • Confident client-facing and commercially assertive


    Qualifications

    • Degree / HND / HNC in Quantity Surveying or related discipline
    • RICS membership (or working towards) desirable
    • Valid CSCS card
    • Full UK driving licence


    Skills & Attributes

    • Strong commercial awareness and understanding of contract law
    • Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management skills
    • Highly organised with the ability to prioritise under pressure
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and commercial management systems
