Description
Job Title: Senior Sustainability Advisor (Environmentally Focused)

Location: Explore Manufacturing - Worksop in Nottinghamshire – Site Based

We're looking for a passionate and pragmatic Senior Sustainability Advisor to drive environmental performance across Europe's most advanced concrete manufacturing facility. This is a hands-on, site-based role, reporting to a roaming Sustainability Lead, and is critical to delivering our environmental compliance, net zero ambitions, and sustainability strategy.

Based at Explore Manufacturing in Worksop, you'll be at the forefront of driving measurable environmental improvements across a high-tech manufacturing environment. From decarbonising operations and reducing energy and water use, to minimising waste and embedding circular economy principles, your work will span design, production, and operations. You'll have the autonomy to take ownership, develop practical solutions, and lead environmental progress across the facility.

About Explore Manufacturing

Explore Manufacturing is Laing O'Rourke's advanced off-site manufacturing business, specialising in Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) solutions. Sustainability is integral to our operations, and our ambition is clear: to become a net zero business before 2050.

We're already making great progress through innovation-led projects like Decarbonising Manufactured Concrete , co-funded by the UK's Industrial Energy Transformation Fund (IETF). Now, we're looking for someone like you to help us accelerate environmental innovation and compliance across our operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Environmental & Energy Management: Ensure our Environmental and Energy Management Systems are maintained and managed in line with ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 standards, driving continual improvement across our operations.
  • Environmental Compliance: Lead daily environmental compliance activities to ensure full alignment with legal and regulatory obligations. Support both internal and external reporting requirements, including submissions to the Environment Agency, Bassetlaw Council, MPA British Precast, and the Building Research Establishment (BRE).
  • Data Management & Analysis: Collect, validate, and analyse sustainability data using platforms such as Intelex, Power BI, and Thrive. Generate insights to inform strategy and track performance.
  • Performance Reporting: Monitor and report on key sustainability metrics, including decarbonisation progress and energy performance indicators.
  • Social Value Leadership: Champion social value initiatives by coordinating local outreach efforts—such as school engagement, volunteering activities, and charity events. Own the development and implementation of a comprehensive site-wide Social Value Plan, ensuring progress is tracked and communicated across departments.
  • Audit & Review Participation: Support internal and external audits and represent sustainability performance during management reviews.
  • Cultural Integration: Drive sustainability awareness and engagement across the site through briefings, training sessions, and toolbox talks.

Essential

About You

  • Strong understanding of environmental legislation, management systems (ISO14001/ISO50001), and compliance obligations
  • Hands-on experience with environmental audits, data tracking, and reporting
  • Confident communicator who can engage effectively with diverse site and management teams
  • Proactive, solutions-focused, and committed to environmental improvement

Desirable

  • Degree (or equivalent experience) in environmental science, sustainability, or a related discipline
  • Experience with low-carbon manufacturing or industrial decarbonisation initiatives
  • Familiarity with tools like Intelex, PowerBI, or similar platforms
