The Independent Chair Service plays a key role in providing quality assurance through independent scrutiny and challenge, ensuring that appropriate care plans are in place and being robustly progressed for children and young people looked after or subject to child protection plans. The service employs independent reviewing officers, fostering independent reviewing officers and child protection co-ordinators who chair a range of meetings for children and young people. In addition to chairing looked after reviews and child protection conferences, the service facilitates a wide range of specialist meetings such as perplexing presentations, exploitation meetings and managing allegations meetings.

The CSM posts provide an opportunity to maintain oversight for children and be closely linked with practice, whilst developing strategic and quality assurance skills and expertise with the support of a well-established service manager peer group. Alongside responsibilities for the independent chair service you will form part of the leadership team of the Safeguarding Assurance and Improvement Group and be involved at a strategic level in a range of activities across the Children and Families Department. In order to meet the demands of these posts, you will already be an experienced manager in children’s social care with a proven track record of service improvement. You will also need to have outstanding organisational and communication skills, significant knowledge and experience of child protection and looked after children work, and an ability to lead and manage an experienced group of staff.

Role

It’s an exciting time to join the independent reviewing service. As we embark on the Families First Reform Programme the service will play an active role in working with colleagues and partners to shape the future of how safeguarding is delivered for children in Nottinghamshire (please note that whilst the service managers lead specific teams, they cover for each other and work closely together so an understanding of looked after and child protection legislation, guidance and practice is needed):

One Part time (18.50 hours) service manager, working alongside another service manager to lead the independent reviewing officers

The post is based within the Safeguarding, Assurance and Improvement Group which is part of the Commissioning and Resources Division of Children and Families.

For an informal discussion please contact Sam Harris (Head of Strategic Safeguarding and Independent Review): [email protected] or call 0115 8041972.

Appointment to this post is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Disabled applicants who meet the essential shortlisting requirements will be guaranteed an interview. A job share scheme is available for all full-time posts: both permanent and temporary, unless otherwise stated. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and we expect all staff to share this commitment and undergo appropriate checks.

Nottinghamshire County Council strives to ensure that it goes beyond the requirements of the Equalities Act and prides itself on being accredited as a Disability Confident Leader Organisation.
