Description

Software Engineer (Java/Full Stack) | Contract-to-Perm | London

Location: Liverpool Street, London (Hybrid – 2-3 days onsite)

Rate: £550 per day (Inside IR35)

Type: Contract-to-Permanent

Start Date: Early to Mid-April 2026

The Opportunity

We are looking for a versatile Software Engineer to join a high-impact feature team within a major Strategic Transformation Programme. This is a mission-critical initiative focused on modernising core platforms, services, and operating models for a leading Financial Services institution.

This role is unique: it begins as a day-rate contract to support immediate delivery, with a guaranteed path toward a permanent position. It is the ideal move for a consultant looking for long-term stability or a permanent developer looking to "test-drive" a major modernisation project before committing.

The Role

As a Full Stack Engineer, you will design and improve software that delivers business-critical capabilities for both customers and internal colleagues. You will work closely with stakeholders—including non technical senior individuals—to solve complex problems and contribute to the firm's growth.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Full Stack Development: Design and develop scalable backend services using Java (Spring Boot) and modern frontend components (Angular/React).
  • Cloud & DevOps: Deploy and maintain secure, performant code within AWS, implementing CI/CD pipelines with a test-first mindset.
  • Collaboration: Participate in Agile ceremonies, peer reviews, and cross-functional solution design.
  • Engineering Excellence: Promote code quality, security best practices, and knowledge sharing within internal tech communities.

Technical Requirements

  • Backend: Strong proficiency in Java 17+, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and Microservices.
  • Frontend: Experience with Angular (with an interest in React/TypeScript for future workstreams).
  • Data: Solid SQL skills (PostgreSQL, MSSQL) and exposure to NoSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra).
  • Infrastructure: Familiarity with AWS
, Docker, Kubernetes, and Kafka.
  • Tooling: Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI.
  • Testing: Commitment to quality using JUnit, Mockito, and Test Containers.

  • The Interview Process

To facilitate an April start, we have a streamlined two-stage process:

    1. Technical Assessment: An online challenge to demonstrate your coding and problem-solving logic.
    2. Teams Interview: A final round on teams to meet the senior stakeholders to discuss the long-term roadmap and culture fit.

    Why Apply?

    • Hybrid Flexibility: Enjoy the culture of a Liverpool Street hub with 2-3 days of remote flexibility.
    • High Impact: Work on a transformation project that is changing the face of the clients digital offering.
    • Career Security: Benefit from a competitive contract rate today with a seamless transition to a permanent career tomorrow.
