Engineering Manager / Senior Engineering Manager
Location: Hybrid (3 days per week in-office)
Company: Leading Payments Company (FinTech)
My client is a high-growth, product-led payments company operating at the forefront of the fintech ecosystem. Their platform powers secure, scalable, and reliable transactions for businesses globally, processing millions of payments daily with a strong focus on compliance, resilience, and performance.
As they continue to scale, we are looking for an Engineering Manager / Senior Engineering Manager to lead high-performing teams building mission-critical payments infrastructure and customer-facing financial products.
The Role
This is a hands-off but highly technical leadership role. You will not be coding day-to-day, but you will remain close to the architecture, technical decisions, and engineering quality. You will lead a team of talented engineers delivering secure, compliant, and scalable payment systems in a regulated environment.
You’ll operate at the intersection of people leadership, technical oversight, delivery excellence, and stakeholder alignment.
This is a hybrid role, requiring 3 days per week in the office to collaborate closely with engineering, product, and commercial teams.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of software engineers (8–15 engineers depending on level).
- Build a strong engineering culture centered on ownership, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Conduct performance reviews, career development planning, and succession planning.
- Hire and retain top engineering talent.
Technical Oversight (Close to the Code)
- Guide architectural decisions for distributed, high-availability payment systems.
- Ensure high standards of code quality, system reliability, scalability, and security.
- Review design documents and participate in critical code reviews when necessary.
- Partner with Staff and Principal Engineers to evolve platform architecture.
- Drive engineering best practices (CI/CD, observability, test automation, DevSecOps).
Delivery & Execution
- Own roadmap execution in collaboration with Product and Design.
Payments & Regulatory Focus
- Oversee development of payment processing systems, APIs, ledger systems, fraud prevention tools, and compliance-related services.
- Ensure systems meet financial regulatory and data security requirements (e.g., PCI DSS, AML, KYC).
- Maintain strong uptime, latency, and transactional integrity standards.
What We’re Looking For:
- 2+ years leading engineering teams in a people management capacity (4+ for Senior level).
- Strong background in backend engineering, ideally within a .NET / C# environment (Nice to have)
- Experience building or scaling distributed systems in high-transaction environments (Nice to have)
- Background in fintech, payments, banking, or other regulated industries (Nice to have)
- Strong understanding of system design, APIs, microservices, and event-driven architecture.
- Experience operating within modern cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
