Opportunity Overview
We are looking for a new Specialist Acoustic Technician to provide full time support to commercial and research contracts in the Centre for Acoustics of the Built Environment. This post will focus on measurement, analysis and certification in Building Acoustics with a focus on UKAS accredited Sound Transmission, Sound Absorption and Impact testing. The post will also support more general laboratory development work. The successful applicant should be able to demonstrate knowledge of and/or utilising methods in acoustic measurement, working closely to standard procedures, communicating with customers, traceability of measurement and acoustic instrumentation. Measurement analysis and development work will utilise Python, Matlab or other appropriate methods.
Key Responsibilities
- Carrying out measurements to standard methods and established measurement processes
- Liaising with clients and the Centre Lead on installation of items for testing
- Setting up measurement equipment
- Preparing accurate and timely reports to standard templates;
- Identifying and resolving equipment issues and utilising support when required;
- Following procedures on for example environmental conditions and external calibration to ensure quality and traceability of results;
- Performing reliable recording and numerical analysis of measurement results according to standard and occasionally non-standard procedures;

The Laboratories are closely integrated with the Acoustics Research Centre with a long history of conducting high quality original research funded by research councils, government bodies, and industry. Salford’s research in Acoustics has led to products and patented inventions that companies make and sell worldwide, as well as regulations and standards used in the UK, Europe and Internationally. In the most recent government Research Excellence Framework (REF 2014) we were described as having achieved ‘outstanding impact in acoustics
