Main duties of the job

The Specialist Health Visitor for Perinatal and Infant Mental Health will lead the development and delivery of perinatal and infant mental health initiatives across the Flying Start service. The role involves providing therapeutic and educational interventions to families, with a strong focus on early intervention, prevention, and the promotion of healthy parent–infant relationships.

The post holder will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement screening pathways, policies, and procedures that support women, men, and families from pregnancy up to two years postnatally. They will contribute to service improvement by strengthening partnerships, enhancing early support provision, and ensuring families receive timely, specialist care.

A key aspect of the role is offering expert training, consultation, and guidance to Health Visiting teams, supporting them to deliver high‑quality, personalised care. The post holder will also raise awareness of the impact of perinatal mental health difficulties and promote effective care planning across primary care, maternity, mental health, and children’s services.
