The Dermatology team is a forward thinking innovative one which has had national recognition for its innovative service redesign and pioneering Tele Dermatology service. We were involved with the first wave pilot for the Getting it right first time (GIRFT) project following which we were commended on our good practice.
Dr De Silva has a specialist interest in Paediatric Dermatology and does Paediatric clinics at Luton. We have a diverse ethnic population with a higher than average rate of inherited disorders. In addition, the Trust has a tertiary level NICU so the paediatric Dermatology case mix is varied and challenging. We are an allergy centre and Dr De Silva does a combined allergy clinic with the paediatricians which allows same session skin prick testing for children with severe eczema and food allergy and review by the dieticians when needed.
One stop rapid access clinics allows immediate diagnosis and same day treatment of urgent suspected cancer (USC). In addition, we have a web based Tele Dermatology consultant led triage service for lesions. There is a weekly Dermatopathology review meeting and a combined clinic for complex cases takes place monthly on site.
A Local skin cancer MDT clinic takes place weekly. There are dedicated cancer follow up clinics and surveillance clinics for immunosuppressed patients with Skin cancer specialist nurse support. There is also a weekly SSMDT meeting.
Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of all patients presenting to the Trust.
To share the management of adult and paediatric patients with dermatology conditions referred to the Trust, with colleagues in the Dermatology Directorate.
Supporting the Dermatology clinical nurse specialists.
To actively participate in both Directorate and Trust matters relating to Clinical Governance and audit.
To have responsibility for and actively participate in continuing professional development (CPD).
