Job Introduction

Strategic Planning Manager

Join us in shaping the future of our land and mineral portfolio

About The Role

As a Strategic Planning Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role within our Regional Strategic Planning team, helping to deliver the ambitions of our Strategic Planning Charter. This position sits at the heart of our Find, Secure and Develop lifecycle — ensuring long-term mineral continuity and creating the industrial footprint needed to sustain and grow our Materials, Cement and Building Products business units.

You’ll help maximise the value of our land and mineral portfolio by identifying opportunities, steering assets through key development stages, and ensuring we are well-positioned for the future. If you’re motivated by work that has long-term impact and strategic importance, this is a role where you can truly make your mark.

What You’ll Be Doing

In this role, you will:

  • Develop Strategic Plans that set out mineral continuity and industrial footprint requirements for each Business Unit
  • Identify, evaluate and secure land and mineral assets aligned to these long‑term plans
  • Drive the development of secured assets through planning and permitting processes, converting potential into operational reality
  • Support quarries and industrial sites with planning compliance, ensuring smooth ongoing operations
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting and management of Land & Natural Resources (L&NR) Capex projects, including preparing Capital Investment submissions
  • Play an active role in strengthening the interface between L&NR and Operational Business Units
  • Contribute to the professional development of colleagues within the wider L&NR team, sharing expertise and promoting best practice

  • What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking someone with a proven track record and deep expertise in land, minerals and industrial development. You’ll thrive here if you possess:

    • Strong experience securing land and mineral interests through Option, Lease or Freehold acquisition
    • A background in delivering mineral and industrial planning projects, including new developments and extensions
    • Hands‑on experience applying for and managing L&NR capital projects and budgets
    • Comprehensive knowledge of UK mineral planning policy and aggregates supply
  • Understanding of Landlord & Tenant and Planning legislation relating to mineral, waste and industrial property
  • Commercial awareness and insight into key financial drivers across the business
  • Confidence representing the business externally and building positive relationships with stakeholders
  • A relevant degree and/or chartered status through a recognised professional body
  • Excellent communication, relationship‑building and organisational skills, supported by technical expertise and strategic thinking
