The Student District Nurse is a trainee role undertaking a structured programme of academic and practice-based learning to achieve the Specialist Practitioner Qualification (SPQ) in District Nursing.
Working under the supervision of a qualified District Nurse, the post holder will contribute to the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care to individuals, families, and communities within a range of community settings.
The role involves supporting the holistic assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for patients with complex and long-term conditions, promoting independence, wellbeing, and improved health outcomes.
The Student District Nurse will participate in caseload management, multidisciplinary team working, and care coordination across Primary Care Networks, while developing clinical skills, decision-making, and leadership capability.
The post holder will actively engage in professional development, reflective practice, and competency-based learning in line with NMC standards. They will contribute to public health, health promotion, and quality improvement initiatives, ensuring practice is safe, effective, and aligned to organisational values, clinical governance frameworks, and the delivery of integrated community care services.

Job Purpose
The Student District Nurse will undertake a structured programme of academic and practice-based learning to develop the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required to deliver safe, effective, and evidence-based care within community settings. Working under the supervision of a qualified District Nurse and multidisciplinary team, the post holder will contribute to the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for individuals, families, and populations with complex health and social care needs.
The role will support the delivery of holistic, patient-centred care within the District Nursing service, contributing to the management of the caseload, promoting independence, and improving health outcomes. The post holder will progressively develop clinical competence, leadership capability, and decision-making skills aligned to the NMC standards for Specialist Practice (District Nursing), including public health, safeguarding, and care coordination.
The Student District Nurse will actively engage in learning opportunities, reflective practice, and professional development, working towards completion of the Specialist Practitioner Qualification (SPQ) in District Nursing. They will contribute to quality improvement, health promotion, and service development initiatives, ensuring care is delivered in line with organisational policies, clinical governance requirements, and the values and behaviours of Nottingham CityCare Partnership.
