Are you ready for an amazing opportunity? Do you want to make a difference to children, young people and families in Cornwall. We are very excited to announce that we have Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) Student Health Visitor training posts available for applications starting in September 2026. This is a fantastic opportunity for a fully funded training programme to qualify as a registered Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (Health Visitor). Open to all qualified Nurses and Midwives registered with the NMC. We provide supportive placements with allocated practice teachers and supervisors to support your learning journey.
The Service & Team:
We deliver Health Visiting and School Nursing services across six localities within Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, covering a diverse geography from the Devon border including Bude, Launceston and Liskeard, through to Helston and Penzance.
We provide an evidencebased, familycentred public health service, focused on identifying health needs, inequality and vulnerability within families and communities.
This is an excellent opportunity to develop your career within a supportive and forwardthinking service. You will work collaboratively with colleagues and partners to meet the needs of local communities and improve outcomes for children and young people across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
The course embraces a family/child/workplace-centred public health role with individuals, families, and populations, and focuses on improving health and tackling health inequalities. The approach requires you to work within a dynamic socio-cultural and service provision context across traditional boundaries, to network and develop services in partnership with service users, other professionals, and the voluntary sector. You'll learn to lead, assess, work collaboratively, evaluate public health provision, and accept responsibility and accountability for the safe, effective, and efficient management of that provision.

This is a full-time fixed term post with a Band 5 AfC salary. Please note that this is a training contract starting the beginning of September 2026. Please note that this will involve travel to UWE in Bristol on occasions and some overnight stays. The course combines taught modules at Bristol and/or Plymouth and clinical placements in Cornwall. Successful completion of the course will lead to registration on Part 3 of the NMC register, an NMC recordable qualification so you will be eligible to apply for a SCPHN HV vacancy post within Cornwall Council. Seconded Students will return to their previous role if there are no vacancies or unsuccessful at interview.
