Main duties of the job

• As Substance Misuse Clinical Team Leader Band 7, you will provide clinical support for clients with substance dependence.
• You will also have qualification as an NMP or willingness to undertake Non-Medical Prescribing training.
• You will ensure management of complex clients, providing advice and guidance on clinical interventions to a team of practitioners, as well as psychosocial workers and agencies concerned with substance misuse.
• As the SMS Lead, you will demonstrate leadership and undertake both clinical and managerial responsibilities.
• You will be responsible for ensuring effective and best use of the nursing provision, psychosocial provision and all clinical resources.

Clinical:

• Ensure you and your team provide high standards of nursing care through on-going clinical assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of treatment for drug and alcohol users.
• Work with a high degree of autonomy and professional accountability to safely deliver the service needs
• Manage sensitive information empathically. This includes sharing and discussing a patient’s changing condition or needs with other relevant professionals.
• Lead on inter-professional and multidisciplinary working with the aim of ensuring continuity of care.
• Continuously evaluate, develop, and implement improvements for clinical and psychosocial service delivery.

Participate and support staff in the safe management of high- risk areas and carry out risk assessments including:

• Handling hazardous material and body fluids
• Challenging behaviour and high-risk situations
• Adult/child safeguarding concerns
• Illicit Drug Use

Promote the health and well-being of patients, supporting their often-complex needs to maintain their optimum level of physical and psychological health.

Manage and support the delivery of bio-psychological and clinical care planning.

Ensuring that needs assessments and treatment plans are reviewed and maintained in line with NMC and local guidelines.

Ensure the 6 ‘C’s are embedded in your clinical practise and the practise of your junior staff.

Ensure that all aspects of professional behaviour and standards are practised in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct at all time

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria

• Sound clinical knowledge and understanding of current NHS policies and national drug issues/policies
• Good verbal, written and presentation skills
• Ability to work independently and to prioritise effectively.
• Ability to assess and treat people with dual diagnosis
• Up to date medicines management competencies.
• IT literate: competent using Microsoft Word and able to report clinical activity data on patient information systems.
• Experience of managing a caseload within the community
• Ability to treat service users with respect and dignity at all times, adopting a culturally sensitive approach which considers the needs of the whole person
• Management experience
• Able to build constructive relationships with warmth and empathy, using good communication skills.

• Experience of working with stimulant users and people with alcohol problems.
• Experience of group facilitation.
• Awareness/knowledge of research skills.
• Awareness of counselling models

Previous Experience

Essential criteria

• Relevant post-registration experience
• Substantial experience working in a drug and alcohol service.
• Experience of practising as an Independent Nurse Prescriber
• Experience of providing line management in a team
• Experience in undertaking Risk Assessments and Risk Management
• Experience of teaching others and willingness to undertake Teaching and Assessing qualification within six months of commencing post.
  
  

Desirable criteria

• Community Nursing Experience.
• Experience of working in and delivering services to injecting drug users.
• Experienced in the supply and administration of Hepatitis vaccines.
• Advanced assessment skills
• Experience of practising as an Independent Nurse Prescriber.
  
  

Education And Qualifications

Essential criteria

• RMN / RGN
• Evidence of continuing personal development and post-registration training in the nursing care assessment and treatment substance misuse clients.
• Relevant post graduate qualification
• V300 Independent Nurse Prescriber or applicant who is currently enrolled in an Independent Nurse Prescribing course
  
  

Desirable criteria

• Degree/ Masters in Drugs and Alcohol Studies or equivalent qualification.
• Completed the Motivational Interviewing Training Module.
• Advanced assessment skills.
