Nuclear Restoration Services Limited (NRS) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). NRS is responsible for decommissioning first generation nuclear power stations Berkeley, Bradwell, Chapelcross, Dungeness A, Hinkley Point A, Hunterston A, Oldbury, Sizewell A, Trawsfynydd and Wylfa, and research sites Harwell and Winfrith. NRS is also responsible for electricity generation at hydroelectric plant Maentwrog. As a division of NRS, NRS Dounreay is responsible for the clean-up and demolition of the former centre of fast reactor research and development.

About The Role

About the Team

The Systems and Maintenance Engineering Team brings together highly skilled professionals across Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, and Control & Instrumentation (C&I) engineering. The team delivers expert engineering services to internal and external stakeholders, ensuring long‑term safety, operational reliability, material condition, performance, and regulatory compliance within a highly regulated environment.

About The Role

We are seeking a Systems Engineer with a strong C&I focus to take ownership of lifetime maintenance plans and investment strategies for a range of existing site systems. These currently include — but are not limited to — plant instrumentation, health physics equipment, and whole‑site communications systems. You will play a key role in supporting the existing team by ensuring that accurate maintenance routines and future operational requirements are effectively planned and implemented.

What You Will Be Doing


  • Act as the focal point and owner for a portfolio of assigned systems and assets.
  • Develop and maintain long‑term engineering strategies to ensure system health, reliability, and compliance.
  • Make well‑informed recommendations for system and asset investment.
  • Conduct and document routine system walkdowns.
  • Define periodic maintenance routines and spares requirements to meet regulatory and performance standards.
  • Produce and/or approve key system documentation, including:
  • Technical Specifications
  • Work Instructions
  • Method Statements
  • Plant Item Operating Instructions
  • Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments
  • Provide technical support to maintenance teams and project activities as needed.


  • You will need

    Essential:


    • Degree, Higher National Certificate (HNC) or equivalent qualification (e.g. NQF Level 4) in a relevant engineering discipline.
    • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.


    Desirable:


    • Membership of a relevant Engineering Institution.
    • Familiarity with Safe Systems of Work.
    • Experience working under CDM 2015 regulations.


    Additional Information:


    • No previous nuclear experience required — full training will be provided.
