Description

Our Tier 1 Private Client team is seeking an Associate Tax Accountant for the tax compliance team.

Renowned for advising both national and international clients, we advise on tax and estate planning, offshore tax planning, corporate tax, and more.

"They can do pretty much anything, from international to agriculture to entrepreneur work" (Chambers HNW Guide 2020).

Rachel Cadby, a Chartered Accountant, who is a well-established member of the trust management and tax compliance teams says:

“Joining a law firm from a firm of accountants may initially seem a scary prospect. However, I found that much of the work I do at Burges Salmon was very similar to work I did before, and you get the extra bonus of a team of lawyers available to help with any difficult legal questions!”

The Role

As an Associate Tax Accountant, you will assist in key areas such as:

  • IHT returns for predominantly excluded property trusts, this may include assisting lawyers with structure analysis.
  • Preparing income and stockpiled gains pools for non-UK trustees, which can include aiding tax advice for UK resident beneficiaries.
  • Preparing UK personal tax returns for UK resident non-domiciled individuals and non-UK residents.

  • These areas offer a mixed workload and opportunities to work across different parts of the department. You may also work on projects like de-enveloping UK properties, which can include non-resident capital gains tax, corporation tax compliance, ATED, and TRS compliance.

    What you'll need

    • Relevant previous accountancy and tax experience, ideally in trust and personal tax fields.
    • Relevant accountancy qualification (either AAT or ACA/ACCA) as well as having a particular interest in the area of tax.
    • Experience of using tax software packages

We are committed to finding the right person for this role and are open to discussing flexible working patterns, including the potential for a part time role.
