Are you passionate about supporting learners and leading a team to deliver high-quality education? CITB is looking for a dedicated Teaching Assistant Team Leader to join our team at NCC Scotland. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real impact in the construction education sector by leading a team of Teaching Assistants and ensuring learners receive the support they need to thrive.


Role: Teaching Assistant Team Leader

Location: 4 Fountain Avenue, Inchinnan Business Park, Inchinnan, Renfrewshire, PA4 9RQ

Hours of Work: Full-time (35 hours per week)

Contract: Permanent

Grade: TL2

Target Salary: £42,642 per annum


About the Role:

Ideal candidates will have prior experience working with learners aged 16 and above, along with a solid track record in supporting apprentices throughout their training. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Line management of a team of three site-based Teaching Assistants, ensuring effective deployment aligned with learner support needs
  • Assist the Learning Support Specialist in implementing and quality-checking learner support records
  • Guide Teaching Assistants in adopting new technologies and processes
  • Support learners individually or in groups to reinforce lesson content and provide additional learning support
  • Collaborate in the development of lesson plans and learning materials tailored to curriculum and learner needs
  • Work alongside lecturers/instructors to prepare and deliver engaging lessons
  • Use assessment data to provide personalised learning and support
  • Deliver high-quality feedback and monitor learner progress using recognised IT platforms
  • Help learners build essential personal, English, maths, and digital skills
  • Work closely with Apprenticeship Development Coaches and Officers to support learner progress reviews
  • Provide learners with advice on career progression opportunities
  • Foster a safe, inclusive learning environment and uphold safeguarding and health & safety standards
  • Attend workshops and training to stay current with teaching methodologies

  • What we’re looking for:

    Essential:

    • Experience supporting learners with additional needs in an educational setting (16+ would be an advantage)
  • Hold a Level 2 qualification or higher in English and maths or demonstrate proficiency at Level 2 or above through a recognised assessment in both subjects
  • Educated to Level 3 or above
  • Previous line management experience
  • Proficiency with IT, including Office 365 (Word, Excel)
  • Willingness to achieve a Level 3 teaching assistant qualification within 9 months of employment with CITB
  • Confidence in advising and challenging on learning support matters
  • Ability to motivate and support learners to overcome barriers
  • Organised, efficient, and able to manage own workload
  • Team player with excellent organisational skills
  • Desirable:

    • Assessor awards
    • Degree-level education
    • Knowledge of funding requirements related to learning support
    • Coaching and/or mentoring qualifications
