Join our expert laboratory team in Derby and play a key role in leading and supporting daily testing operations within a world-class embedded laboratory environment. As Team Leader, you’ll combine hands-on technical knowledge with strong people leadership to ensure efficient, safe, and compliant operations that meet both client and regulatory expectations.
About You
You’re an experienced laboratory professional with a solid understanding of testing standards, quality systems, and team supervision. You take pride in accuracy, safety, and developing others, and thrive in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.
Key Requirements
- Degree or HNC (NQF Level 4–6) in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Proven supervisory experience within a laboratory or technical testing environment.
- Knowledge of ISO 17025 and other relevant QHSE and accreditation standards.
- Strong communication and organisational skills with the ability to motivate and guide a team.
- Confident in client liaison, audit preparation, and managing technical documentation.
About the Opportunity
As a Team Leader / Section Head, you’ll provide supervisory and technical support to ensure your section meets daily operational, quality, and commercial targets in a safe and compliant manner. You’ll also act as deputy to the designated line manager when required.
Key Activities
- Oversee day-to-day laboratory operations, ensuring testing is carried out accurately, safely, and on time.
- Manage team workload, performance, and training to maintain technical competency.
- Monitor equipment maintenance and calibration to ensure continued compliance.
- Conduct internal audits and ensure adherence to ISO 17025, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and other standards.
- Authorise test reports and statements of conformity.
- Control purchasing and overtime within agreed budgets.
- Participate in quality and safety reviews, toolbox talks, and incident reporting.
- Identify opportunities for improvement in processes, performance, and client satisfaction.
- Support Health, Safety, and Environmental initiatives, risk assessments, and COSHH compliance.
