We have an exciting opportunity for a Permanent, Full Time, Team Manager - Clean & Green, Play & Landscapes to join Southampton City Council (SCC) in the Residents Service Directorate.
About The Team
The Clean & Green, Play & Landscape Services team is committed to delivering excellent environmental maintenance services across Southampton. We are responsible for maintaining the city’s parks, sports grounds, play areas, landscaped spaces, and streets, ensuring these areas remain safe, accessible, and welcoming for all. Our team plays a key role in supporting the city’s clean, green, and sustainable ambitions.
About The Role
As Team Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day delivery of a wide range of public realm services, including street cleansing, grounds maintenance, play and landscape services, and the management of school grounds and sports facilities. You will be responsible for the operational planning, supervision, and coordination of frontline staff, ensuring services are delivered efficiently, safely, and to the highest standards.
This is a hands-on management role that requires strong leadership and technical skills. You will ensure compliance with health and safety legislation, COSHH regulations, and hazardous substance procedures while promoting a positive working culture and driving continuous service improvement.

Key Responsibilities Include
- Managing staff and resources across street cleansing, parks, and play and landscape services.
- Leading in implementing operational plans, schedules, and performance targets.
- Ensuring compliance with all statutory regulations and corporate policies.
- Conducting regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
- Manage budgets, order materials, and coordinate equipment and fleet usage.
- Engaging with schools, local communities, and internal stakeholders.
- Responding to service requests, customer enquiries, and complaints promptly and effectively.
About You
We seek an enthusiastic and experienced operational leader who is passionate about public service and high-quality environmental maintenance.
You’ll Have
- NVQ Level 3 (or above) in a relevant field, or equivalent experience.
- Health & Safety qualifications (e.g. IOSH/NEBOSH), and COSHH knowledge.
- ROSPA certification
- A full UK driving licence (Category C1E).
- Experience supervising teams in an operational setting
- Knowledge of street cleansing, horticulture, landscaping, or play and park management.
- Excellent people management, planning, and decision-making skills.
- Strong customer service and communication abilities.
