We are currently looking for a Technician to join our friendly team based at Tarmac Halecombe Quarry and Asphalt Plant, Frome, Somerset . As well as Frome, this role is easily accessible from Nunney, Shepton Mallet, Warminster, Trowbridge, Bath, Midsomer Norton, Gillingham, Glastonbury and surrounding areas.

Main Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Senior Technician, the role of Technician will comply with Company safety policies and promote a high standard of safety awareness and will be responsible for:

• Sampling and testing of various construction materials (aggregates and asphalt) on a daily basis in line with procedures and British Standards
• Testing will be carried out to the highest safety standards and within your manual handling capabilities

To complete documentation ensuring this is filed correctly,imputingtest results into theappropriate system

Correct identification of quality issues and taking effective corrective action, supporting complaint investigations whenrequired

The majority of material testing carried out within the laboratory, which will include ovens, furnaces, sieves, weighing apparatus, and other scientific based equipment

Ensuring the quality of the materials ismonitoredat all times for both internal and external customers

Positively promoting the company brand and act as an ambassador when customer facing

Carrying out tests on time, meeting test frequency rates – reported in Quality KPI’s

Compliance with standards and QA procedures – measured in company internal and external audits

Occasional sampling and testing may be required at other sites in the South West region

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for the role of Technician will have laboratory experience gained within the construction sector and will possess knowledge of aggregate and / or asphalt testing and production. We do, however, welcome applications from candidates without experience as full training will be provided.

This Technician role is not a typical ‘lab coat’ laboratory type of role – it is a vital hands-on site-based role, wearing PPE and working in a small team closely supporting our operational quarries and asphalt plants.

Suitable candidates for the role of Technician will:

• Be hard working and self-motivated

Have excellent communication skills and be able to liaise with stakeholders of varying seniority levels

Be accuratein their work and demonstrate strong attention to detail

Have the ability to identify potential risks/issues (training will be provided)

Be able to work independently and to collaborate as part of a wider team

Be IT literate

Possess a good numerical aptitude (handling calculations/interpreting results)

Be flexible in their working approach

Be Health and Safety conscious

Have a f ull UK Driving Licence
