Join UKHSA as a Toxicology Specialist
We are seeking a committed and scientifically driven professional to join the General Toxicology and Biomonitoring Programme. In this role, you will help safeguard public health by assessing the risks posed by chemicals in drinking water, contaminated land and waste processes, and by supporting regional teams during chemical contamination incidents.
Your expertise in toxicology, chemical risk assessment, national chemicals regulation or human biomonitoring will directly inform UKHSA’s evidence‑based advice and contribute to national health protection.
Key Responsibilities
- Critically evaluate toxicity data and complex scientific information.
- Develop clear, authoritative advice on the health effects of chemicals in water, soil and waste.
- Communicate specialist toxicological guidance to colleagues, government partners and other stakeholders.
- Ensure advice is accurately documented and easily accessible.
- Contribute to the UKHSA Compendium of Chemical Hazards and a new public‑facing resource on chemical health risks.
What You Will Bring
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
- Ability to critically assess scientific literature and toxicity data.
- A relevant degree (toxicology, chemistry, pharmacology or related discipline) or equivalent experience.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to plan work across multiple time horizons.
Desirable Experience
- Previous work in toxicology, public health or related fields.
- Experience in industry or regulatory environments.
- Confidence communicating complex or sensitive issues.
- Ability to maintain and develop professional networks.
This role involves working with national and international experts and translating scientific evidence into practical, high‑quality public health guidance.
