Subsea7 is offering an exciting opportunity for a Trainee Designer to join the Design Draughting team at our Westhill, Aberdeenshire office. This is a full‑time staff position where you’ll work with cutting‑edge 3D design and VR technology to help shape the future of subsea engineering.

As a trainee, you’ll become part of a highly skilled group of CAD Designers known for their technical skill and collaborative mindset. You’ll be entering one of the most diverse and technically challenging industries in the world, supported every step of the way.

Our Aberdeen Central Engineering Design Office plays a key role not only in the UK energy sector but also in supporting global projects, promoting innovation and design excellence across multiple regions. What will you be doing?

You will be part of a structured, three‑year in‑house vocational training programme that will include:

  • Guidance from mentors focused on developing your full potential
  • Exposure to a wide range of engineering design disciplines
  • Opportunities to contribute to all phases of project delivery — from tender and FEED through to detailed design, installation, and commissioning

  • You will gain exposure to a wide variety of engineering design challenges, including:

    • Bundle design and installation
    • Renewable energy projects, including carbon capture and hydrogen storage
    • Pipelay operations
    • Subsea structures and manifolds
    • Field developments and tie‑ins
    • Inspection, Repair and Maintenance (IRM)
    • Installation and decommissioning activities
    • Vessel‑based operations, equipment design, and bespoke/custom tooling solutions
    • Tenders, studies and FEED activities

    Responsibilities

    In this trainee role, you will work under the guidance of experienced mentors while developing core draughting and design skills. Your responsibilities will include:

    • Learning and applying industry‑standard drafting techniques, codes and practices
    • Producing engineering drawings, 3D models, layouts and technical sketches
    • Supporting the wider design team across a range of project phases and disciplines

    What experience would we like you to have?

    • A recognised Engineering HNC or HND
    • No prior industry experience is required - full training will be provided
    • Some familiarity with AutoCAD or Autodesk Inventor (school/college level) is advantageous
