Surrey County Council is the Waste Disposal Authority (WDA) for Surrey. The WDA is responsible for managing around 530,000 tonnes of municipal waste per annum.
The WDA currently has an appointed contractor to manage its waste disposal facilities in Surrey, which includes the operation of 4 Waste Transfer Stations (WTS),14 Community Recycling Centres (CRCs) and the Eco Park waste treatment facility. The contract has complex financial, operational and performance provisions that require detailed monitoring procedures to determine contract payments.
The CRCs are provided for residents to dispose of household waste which cannot be collected from the kerbside. They are one of the most significant public-facing services the council provides, and they attract approximately 2.7 million visitors each year.
In contrast the WTS and the Eco Park waste treatment facility receives waste collected from households by the 11 districts and boroughs Waste Collections Authorities (WCA).
