The Role

Join our fast-paced and dedicated food testing laboratory, where accuracy, teamwork and commitment to quality are at the heart of everything we do. As a Laboratory Technician, you’ll play a key role in supporting microbiological testing processes that help ensure food safety and quality for our clients.

About The Position

Shift: Flexible; shifts will be offered based on laboratory needs

Hours: Zero-Hours (work as required)

Salary: £12.42 per hour

Location:
Rotherham

Contract: Permanent

The day to day

  • Perform microbiological testing on food samples, including weighing, diluting, and preparing samples using aseptic techniques.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and hygienic workstation in line with departmental cleaning schedules.
  • Prepare and supplement media, conduct volume checks, and operate laboratory equipment such as media preparators and pourer stackers.
  • Ensure all samples are handled safely and accurately.
  • Dispose of waste and clean utensils promptly to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to meet testing deadlines and departmental targets.

The Essentials

  • Educated to A level (or equivalent) in a science-related subject – or with relevant laboratory experience.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining laboratory cleanliness and safety standards.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work well within a team and respond positively to feedback.
  • Reliable and punctual, with a flexible approach to working hours and changing priorities.
  • Able to manage workload effectively and meet required deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrates initiative, problem-solving skills, and a proactive attitude toward learning and improvement.
