ROLE OVERVIEW


The team


As part of the firm's insurance group, the team handles a wide variety of claims against various professionals and businesses. The role largely involves defending liability claims both pre and post litigation. The team is also frequently asked to provide coverage advice to insurers, including management liability policies covering D&O and EPL


As well as acting for all the major Professional Indemnity Insurers, the team also acts directly for a number of large professional services firms and businesses, from SME to large corporates.


The role


We are looking for an Associate who has had experience with Employment Practices Litigation (EPL). The successful candidate will work alongside a number of partners and lawyers within a vibrant and growing team. The work will be varied, interesting and challenging and you will be given autonomy. You will handle matters involving a range of professions with values ranging from tens of thousands of pounds to multi millions.


You will also have the opportunity to get involved with business development and client initiatives as well as:


  • Managing a caseload of EPL claims, acting for the vast majority of professional Indemnity Insurers in the market and their insureds.
  • Advising insurers on policy coverage aspect of claims.
  • Delivering high quality and timely output to clients, ensuring high levels of client service and alignment with agreed working practices and client service level agreements.
  • Contributing to the development and improvement of the team's service, support, processes and procedures.
  • Working to develop an environment of constant improvement: enthusiastically sharing with and helping others; and taking responsibility for aspects of team development, such as intranet pages, training and induction, process improvements etc.
  • Capturing and collating required Management Information in accordance with agreed practice for clients.

  • Knowledge, skills and experience


    • Circa 1-3 years of PQE with previous experience managing EPL claims.
    • A strong grounding in employment litigation. Insurance experience is desirable but not essential.
    • A good understanding of employment law and employment tribunal procedures.
    • A good knowledge of legal procedures.
    • Able to deliver legal and commercial solutions and establish collaborative working relationships with clients and colleagues to provide an outstanding client experience.
    • Able to supports the team to manage the client experience, developing trusted relationships and interacting with clients confidently to achieve the best outcome for the client.
    • Able to work efficiently and commercially and understand the importance of financial hygiene.
    • Demonstrates excellent communications skills (both orally and in writing)
    • Good attention to detail and excellent organisational skills
    • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office.
