Description

The Clinical Matron has 24-hour accountability for quality, staff, finance and performance of their area. The Clinical Matron will be responsible for ensuring patients receive high quality, evidenced based compassionate care.

The Clinical Matron will be responsible for Clifton ward which cares for patients awaiting onward care following their discharge. This can include packages of care, D2A beds, nursing home placements and other community care services. The Clinical Matron will ensure that staff in both areas are supported and developed to deliver high quality care in accordance with the Trust values.

The Clinical Matron will engage with monthly reviews and be a driving force for maintaining key performance indicators within their areas. The matron will develop a strong link with the integrated discharge team and regularly review onward pathways to ensure that discharges happen in a timely and safe manner.

The Clinical Matron will have enhanced clinical skills and provide clinical expertise both within their own clinical environment and across the organisation as necessary to support the Organisational Strategy in theachievement of professional, operational and clinical governance objectives. This will involve being responsible for the development and implementation of service improvement and/or policies in their areaof expertise.

Job description

Provide professional leadership and line management to a range of staff, holding 24-houraccountability for the care delivered within the department.Create and maintain environments that support the implementation of the vision and values of HHFT and assist with embedding the Trusts vision and values into objectives plans and business developments.Attend departmental and divisional meetings to provide information and update teams on the activities within the department.To ensure the effective management and development of all staff, including ensuring that all staff members have an annual appraisal and development review.To manage the Team Leaders, supporting and developing them in their role to ensure they are able to provide effective day-to-day management and supervision of their staff.

To ensure that systems are in place for the effective and fair recruitment and selection of staff in line with Trust policy.To implement and maintain systems to ensure the effective induction and on-going training of all staff.To ensure that effective two-way communication takes place at all levels within the service, developing and maintaining systems and approaches to staff communication and involvementthat take account of the working patterns and requirements of staff.Lead on the complex patient assessment, requiring high level analysis and interpretation skills and the comparison of a range of options to achieve effective treatment or discharge planning.

Training & Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree or equivalent level of experience
  • Up to date clinical professional registration
  • Evidence of continuous professional practice and education clearly recorded in current professional profile.

Desirable

  • Demonstration of Leadership or management experience and study
  • Educated to master's degree level or able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge and expertise gained through any combination of alternative study and/or work experience
  • Advanced practice qualification

Experience & Knowledge

Essential

  • Ability to provide inspirational leadership in a clinical team in keeping with Trust values
  • Be able to undertake Root Cause Analysis and investigations and provide meaningful outcomes
  • Good evidence of staff supervision and mentorship including management of performance, conduct, sickness absence and training needs analysis
  • Ability to work autonomously, demonstrating a high level of professional and personal credibility, inspiring confidence in others
  • Desirable

    • Experience of managing a budget and delivering on this
    • Experience of project management
    • Evidence of the ability to demonstrate service improvement skills and delivering on change management projects
