Description
NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

University Hospital, Crosshouse is a large district general hospital based in Ayrshire, central Scotland. Crosshouse is situated 35 minutes south of Glasgow. Funding from Additional Cost of Teaching money has provided this opportunity to continue our commitment to teaching of undergraduate medical students. We wish to appoint a Clinical Teaching Fellow (1 post) within the department of paediatrics at University Hospital Crosshouse. The post will commence on 5th August 2026.

The Clinical Teaching Fellow will focus on the organisation, development and provision of teaching to undergraduate medical students from Glasgow University and Dundee University. The successful candidate will spend approximately 8-12 hours per week on a mixture of bedside teaching and facilitated tutorials.

The Board will provide significant funding towards a PG Certificate in Medical Education with our partner university. It is envisaged that this will cover most, if not all, of the course fee. The contribution will be clarified by the time of interview.

The balance of time will be in clinical practice with protected time for personal development (audit,
research and/or completion of certificate course in medical education. This post will not contribute to the out-of-hours rota and is therefore unbanded.

This post is suited to trainees who have satisfactorily completed foundation training or can demonstrate equivalent competencies, and wish to develop skills in medical education or clinical research. The posts would also be highly suited to any candidate who has completed broad based training and wishes to develop sub-specialty experience and improve their curriculum vitae prior to specialty training application. We also welcome applicants at Paediatric Specialty training level who wish to develop their Medical Education skills. Funding towards a medical education qualification (for example, a post graduate certificate in medical education) will be made available. Alternatively successful candidates may opt to undertake their own portfolio of development aligned to their personal needs and career aspirations. Where an appointee decides not to enrol in the certificate course in medical education, up to £1,250 will be made available to support funding of personal development activities, which must be agreed with the Clinical Supervisor/Assistant Director of Medical Education.

For those candidates NOT wishing to undertake a PG cert funding of up to £1250 will be made available to support professional development such as attendances at course.

Please note tha
t these posts do not carry educational approval with the Dean.

You will be fully registered with the GMC with a current Licence to Practice, and must have completed foundation or equivalent training. Evidence of an interest in, and an aptitude for teaching would be advantageous.
