The Government Art Collection (GAC), promotes British art and contributes to cultural diplomacy. Dating from 1899, the Collection is a unique resource with over 15,000 British works of art spanning six centuries in a range of media. About 60% of the Collection is on display in 125 British Government buildings around the world, making it the most widely distributed collection of British art in the world. The Government Art Collection team is part of the Visitor Economy, Heritage, Loans and Art Collection (VEHLAC) Directorate within DCMS. It consists of three teams: Curatorial, Collection Care and Collection Information.
Job description
This roles ensures that effective documentation policies, procedures, systems and standards are managed, supported and developed across the work of the Collection.
Collection documentation underpins the Government Art Collection’s (GAC) operation, and the Collection Management System is critical to the effective operation of the GAC, as well as being the source repository of core information for external audiences. Alongside this, we maintain an archive of paper and digital resources relating to the history and activities of the Collection.
As a Documentation Specialist, you will deliver a high-quality service that supports the GAC’s systems, operational cycle and strategic projects. Your role is to ensure that information about our artworks and activities is maintained, legally compliant and accessible for the team, organisation and audiences.
