You'll work closely with Credit Controllers, the Billing team, and fee-earning departments, gaining valuable experience of legal finance operations and client billing requirements.

The role

Managing the Credit Control Inbox Monitoring a shared mailbox, logging requests, triaging queries to the right people, responding to straightforward enquiries, and ensuring deadlines/SLAs are met.
Receiving & Validating Purchase Orders (POs) - Checking PO accuracy and compliance with client requirements (e.g., correct references, values, validity periods), confirming alignment with invoices/matters, and maintaining PO records.
Maintaining AR / Billing Records - Ensuring key data is accurate across finance systems (client references, PO numbers, billing contacts, billing instructions) and supporting data quality improvements.
Query Resolution Support (Internal & External) - Liaising with fee earners, support teams, billing, and clients to obtain missing information, resolve basic disputes (e.g., missing PO, incorrect reference), and keep queries progressing.
Supporting Billing Readiness - Helping ensure invoices are "right first time" by confirming client billing requirements are met (POs, billing instructions, e-billing details where relevant), and escalating exceptions promptly.
Reporting & Administration - Assisting with simple reporting, maintaining trackers, updating dashboards/spreadsheets, and supporting month-end admin.
General Finance Administration - Filing, document control, maintaining audit trails, and supporting continuous improvement of team processes.

IT Proficiency - Competency in Microsoft Excel and financial software (e.g., Sage, Xero, or legal accounting systems).

Communication Skills - Clear and professional interaction with colleagues, clients, and external stakeholders.

Problem-Solving Ability - Identifying and resolving discrepancies or financial issues efficiently.

Teamwork - Working collaboratively with finance colleagues and other departments.

Confidentiality and Integrity - Handling sensitive financial data with discretion and professionalism.

Knowledge of Financial Regulations - Understanding or willingness to learn Solicitors Accounts Rules (SAR) and financial compliance requirements.

Eagerness to Learn - A proactive approach to training and professional development in legal finance.
