Description

About The Role

APEM’s continued growth and expanding global reach has created a brand-new leadership opportunity for a Head of Health, Safety, Environment, Quality and Sustainability (HSEQS) - UK & Ireland. This is a pivotal role within our Group Services function, reporting to the Group HSEQS Director and working closely with our Senior Leadership Team across the UK and Ireland.

As the expert Health & Safety lead for UK&I, you will shape and elevate our HSEQS strategy across a complex, multi-disciplinary consultancy operating in highly regulated environments. You’ll work across Marine, Water Environment, Land Services, Environmental Data Services and Group Services; embedding a culture that protects our people, supports sustainable growth and drives continuous improvement.

This is more than a compliance role. It is an opportunity to influence strategic direction, strengthen governance, support integration of acquisitions and ensure our management systems evolve in line with both business growth and global Group priorities. You will lead and inspire a high-performing HSEQS team, providing visible, credible leadership and acting as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders across a complex, multi-sited organisation.

Please note the successful person could be based in either the UK or Ireland; and ideally enjoy working on-site and/or a hybrid approach to their working pattern.

What we’re looking for

You’ll need to bring:

  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent Level 6 Health & Safety qualification
  • Chartered Membership of IOSH (CMIOSH), or be very close to achieving Chartered status
  • Significant experience leading HSEQS functions within large, complex, multi-site organisations
  • Experience working within highly regulated environments
  • A proven track record of maintaining and achieving ISO45001, ISO9001 and ISO14001 certification within integrated management systems
  • Strong knowledge of UK & Ireland HSEQS regulatory frameworks and legislation
  • Demonstrable experience influencing senior stakeholders and driving cultural change
  • Experience leading and developing multi-disciplinary HSEQS teams
  • Commercial awareness and experience contributing to tenders and business growth
  • Budget management experience
  • A collaborative, pragmatic and hands-on leadership style

  • It’s a bonus if you have:

    • Degree-level education
    • Experience supporting mergers and acquisitions, including HSEQS due diligence and integration
    • Experience operating within a matrixed or global group structure
    • Experience across multiple sectors such as renewables, water environment, terrestrial, marine or aviation
    • Exposure to international regulatory frameworks
