This is an exciting opportunity to join the WAHT Undergraduate Academy as Lead Clinical Teaching Fellow.

This post will give you hands on teaching and leadership opportunities in a well respected Undergraduate Academy.

Job description

This job description, together with the Capabilities Framework and job plan, will be reviewed annually and agreed with the Clinical Director and Divisional Director, on behalf of the Chief Medical Officer, to ensure that it continually reflects the areas of work, clinical responsibility of the post and purchaser requirements.

Person specification

Management and Administrative Experience

Essential

• Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively.
• Experience of audit management and conducting clinical audit.

Desirable

• Attendance at recognised leadership/ management courses/training

Experience

Essential

• Completed at least four years full time postgraduate training (or equivalent gained on part time basis) with clinical training and experience equivalent to that required at CT/ST3 level in relevant specialty or have equivalent years experience in a relevant specialty from other medical grades including from overseas will also be accepted.

Desirable

• Previous experience working in the NHS

• Enquiring, critical approach to work with a commitment to continuing Medical Education and Professional Development.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, patients, relatives, nurses and other agencies.
• Flexible approach to work duties and reliable and supportive to other colleagues.
• Ability to deal with emotional, frightened or hostile patients, relatives and students, both face to face and via telephone calls.
• Ability to support patients and relatives in breaking bad news whilst working in the clinical setting.

Desirable

• Interest in research in medical education supported by evidence such as publications, presentations, or conferences.

Qualifications

Essential

• Eligible for full GMC Registration with a Licence to practise at the time of appointment.
• MBChB, MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
• ALS certification OR alternative specialty advanced qualification (such as APLS / ATLS) with adult BLS. All certificates to be in date at time of application.
• Train the Trainer/Teach the Teacher or equivalent course

Desirable

• Higher degree.
• Formal further qualification in medical education eg. PGCert.
• Membership examination with the relevant UK Royal College.

Other Requirements

Essential

• An understanding of the current NHS environment, particularly in relation to reforms, initiatives and issues.
• Ability to work in various locations throughout the network of services provided by Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.
• Able to meet the travel requirements of the job and return to the hospital within 30 minutes when undertaking non-resident on call duties.

• Adheres to professional requirements of annual appraisal and reviews of performance and progression.

Teaching Experience

Essential

• Ability to organise and deliver teaching across the whole undergraduate curriculum.
• Ability to teach clinical skills to medical undergraduates.
• Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates and postgraduates.
• In depth knowledge of UK undergraduate curriculum.

Desirable

• Experience of providing pastoral /wellbeing support to medical students in a formally recognised role.
• Involvement as faculty in high fidelity simulation training.
• Involvement in Medical School interviews.
