Modern Matron

The Matron role is the cornerstone of improving the quality of patient care. This is achieved through visible inclusive leadership and engagement with patients and families, frontline staff and senior management teams. (CNO England, 2020). The post holder will be assigned to specific Clinical Speciality Groups (CSG) or speciality specific departments. The post holder will be accountable for ensuring compliance with regulatory and best practice standards, whilst striving to deliver the Trust strategic objectives. Working in partnership with the CSG lead and Speciality manager, the matron will focus upon 5 specific areas of responsibility: Inclusive leadership, professional standards and accountability Governance, patient safety and quality Patient experience, pathways and outcomes, reducing health inequalities Workforce planning and resource management Staff engagement and wellbeing The post holder is expected to keep up to date on all professional issues related to nursing, midwifery and AHP practice including relevant research findings and the broader NHS.

Qualifications

Essential

• Registered nurse, midwife or Allied Health proffesional (included on NMC register or HCOC register) with ability to apply professional codes of conduct

Educated to Master's degree level or equivalent in health care

Achievement of a programme of teaching, assessing and mentoring skills

Evidence of continuing personal development

Desirable

• Training in risk assesment and Duty of Candour processes

Experience

Essential

• Prior experience leading a team or service
• Experience introducing change to improve practice
• Experience of working within acute services
• Experoence in recruitment, selection and retention processes
• Experience of contributing to intergrated care initiatives
• Ward or department managment experience

Desirable

• Experience utillising root cause analysis tools to investigation incendents
• Experience undertaking audit and initiating actions to address findings
