We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

The Role

We are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic occupational therapist, with developed rehabilitation knowledge and skills, to join our orthopaedic team in the Royal Alexandra Hospital. This post will be responsible for occupational therapy caseload management of both acute trauma and elective orthopaedic rehabilitation. Multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working with skilled communication is essential for the seamless transfer of patients to ongoing rehabilitation units and discharge into the community.

You will lead in service development and will be actively encouraged to develop through your 4 pillars of practice while participating in CPD and audit.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

  • Location based in Royal Alexandra Hospital
  • Permanent Contract
  • Part-time contract (11.35 hours per week)
  • This post will support the weekend service and will be worked over 2 to 3 days (Saturday, Sunday, and Monday) dependent on experience.
  • Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours.

Key Responsibilities

  • To be legally accountable for all aspects of own professional work, including direct and indirect patient care within scope of practice.
  • Act independently to assess and analyse individual patients holistically, to determine their need for Occupational Therapy intervention within a specific clinical specialty.
  • Act independently in prioritising patient needs, to ensure individual patients on own caseload receive intervention timeously and appropriately.
  • Using available evidence base, act independently to plan, implement, evaluate, treat and progress patient care, to maximise functional independence and rehabilitation potential within a specific clinical specialty.
  • Deputise for line Manager to maintain continuity of service delivery in their absence e.g. annual leave, sickness, and absence records.
  • Supervise clinical workload of band 5, providing direct and indirect supervision ensuring continued professional development and performance review to promote personal and service development.
  • Take responsibility for the day to day management of band 5 OT and band 5 OTAP and delegate tasks or duties.
  • Adapt service provision in times of crisis management e.g. unexpected staff absence, incorporating re-allocation of tasks.

  • Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

    It is essential you have a Diploma / Degree in Occupational Therapy with current registration with the HCPC and evidence of relevant post graduate courses/ CPD. This post requires PVG Scheme Membership (Protecting Vulnerable Adults).

    Qualifications

    • Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy
    • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
    • Evidence of relevant post graduate courses/ CPD

    Experience

    • Highly specialist knowledge and application of Occupational therapy practice within specialist clinical field of Orthopaedics
  • Supervisory skills in supporting and developing staff
  • Healthcare governance at specialist level, e.g. Clinical Effectiveness, audit, evidence-based practices

  • Behavioural Competencies

    • Proven strong leadership qualities
    • Excellent interpersonal skills for dealing with patients, patients’ families, and co-workers
    • Forward thinking with a clear interest in service development
    • Confident/motivated/enthusiastic

    From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part-time working hours will be reduced on a pro-rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
