Job Purpose
Professional Excellence Accelerator (PEA) Lecturer is responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and developmental support on the PEA across undergraduate and postgraduate cohorts.
The postholder will support students in developing the academic, digital and professional skills required to succeed in UK higher education and to progress confidently through their degree programme. The role is particularly focused on supporting international students and other students in transition, helping them build confidence in academic conventions, communication, professional identity and independent learning.
The Lecturer will teach on the PEA using the agreed module structure and resources, provide formative developmental feedback, monitor engagement and contribute to a positive and inclusive student learning experience.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
Deliver high-quality, engaging and inclusive teaching on the PEA across BSc and MSc cohorts.
Teach sessions in areas such as transition to UK higher education, academic writing and academic conventions, critical reading, analysis and synthesis, referencing and academic integrity, responsible and ethical use of AI, digital fluency and business/professional technologies, presentation, communication and teamwork, reflective practice and self-management, employability, professional identity and career readiness
Adapt delivery methods for undergraduate and postgraduate students as appropriate.
Create an active, supportive and developmental learning environment that builds confidence, belonging and professional behaviours.
Deliver workshops, tutorials and targeted interventions for students requiring additional support.
Student Support and Engagement
Support students in understanding academic expectations, study practices and professional behaviours relevant to UK higher education.
Provide formative feedback on students’ academic and professional development.
Offer tutorials, small-group support or guidance sessions where appropriate.
Identify students who may be at risk of disengagement or underperformance and refer concerns through appropriate channels.
Work with the Module Lead and wider support teams to contribute to early intervention and student success.
Delivery and Administration
Deliver teaching in line with agreed schemes of work, lesson plans and module guidance.
Use module materials effectively and contribute feedback on their delivery and impact.
Maintain accurate attendance, participation and engagement records.
Carry out administrative tasks associated with teaching and student support.
Support the effective use of Moodle/VLE and ensure students are directed to relevant learning resources and tasks.
Quality and Enhancement
Contribute to the consistent delivery of the PEA across cohorts.
Participate in team meetings, standardisation discussions and staff development activities.
Contribute feedback on student needs, engagement patterns and areas for module enhancement.
Support module evaluation through student feedback and reflective review.
Maintain awareness of good practice in higher education teaching, student transition, academic skills and employability.
Collaboration and Liaison
Work collaboratively with the Module Lead, Programme Leaders, lecturers and student support staff.
Liaise with colleagues as needed to ensure that PEA teaching supports students’ wider academic experience.
Contribute to induction, orientation and student engagement activities where required.
General Responsibilities

Qualifications
A postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline such as: Education, Business / Management, Applied Linguistics / EAP, Academic Practice or another relevant subject
For Level 6, a relevant Master’s degree and PhD or substantial teaching and research or industry experience at that level.
Formal teaching qualification PGCHE or Registered Practitioner of Advance HE.
Experience
Experience of teaching students in higher education.
Experience of delivering academic skills, study skills, professional skills, employability, or transition support.
Experience of supporting students from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds, including international students.
Experience of designing teaching materials and learning activities.
Experience of using Moodle or another VLE to support teaching and student engagement.
Experience of monitoring student participation and providing academic support or intervention.
Experience of teaching within Business, Management, Marketing, Project Management or related professional subject areas. (Desirable)

Knowledge
Strong understanding of UK higher education expectations at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Understanding of the transition challenges faced by international students and other non-traditional entrants.
Knowledge of digital fluency and responsible use of AI in academic and professional contexts.
Understanding of employability and professional identity development in higher education.
