How about Regulatory Services Regulatory Services is where legislation meets the real world. We are out across the city every day, in various locations such as; restaurants and retail units, private rented homes, festivals and events, licensed premises and on the roadside, ensuring standards are met and risks are properly managed. We investigate complaints, carry out inspections, gather evidence and, where necessary, use our statutory powers to protect the public. It is visible work. It is practical. And it makes a tangible difference. Our service brings together specialist teams in Licensing, Food and Public Safety, Noise, Pollution and Area Environmental Health, Taxi Vehicle Testing, Trading Standards, Housing Standards and HMO Licensing, and Selective Licensing. Together we protect health, improve housing conditions, regulate licensed activity, respond to environmental concerns and support responsible businesses to thrive. The work ranges from advisory visits and compliance checks through to formal enforcement action and preparing and attending cases for court or hearings. This role focuses on Food and Public Safety and Regulatory Compliance Officers will lead detailed inspections and build evidence based cases that stand up to scrutiny, ensuring food businesses and venues meet their statutory obligations. The ability to prepare clear reports and statements for potential legal proceedings is essential, and you may be required to represent the Service and the Council at formal hearings. If you are motivated by meaningful, outward facing work and confident in applying legislation in real world situations, we would welcome your application. What you will be doing We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Regulatory Compliance Officer (Grade 8) to support the organisation in meeting its statutory and regulatory obligations. Working with the Band 9 Officers you will work on complex cases and support colleagues with progressing their inspections and enforcement action. Undertaking investigations; you'll gather evidence including witness statements and expert opinions to create robust cases for formal enforcement. You'll prepare reports to brief colleagues, senior officers (including legal services) as well as partner agencies. You will hold your own caseload of work and will be a competent problem solver and critical thinker. You will have sound judgement skills and decision making ability.
