Main duties of the job
Research is a rewarding and patient-centred career. The research at UHS is focused on a holistic approach to patient care and significantly contributes to the further progress of healthcare for all.
We strive to ensure that research is considered as a treatment option for all eligible participants, and we work closely with clinical teams and within patient clinical pathways to ensure that research opportunities are met.
We currently have an exciting opportunity in our Clinical Research Facility (CRF) adult research nursing team for a full-time Band 6 research sister. As part of a team of band 6 research sisters, you will work with the senior research nursing team, the research education team, and clinical and non-clinical teams to support the delivery of research in the CRF and in the clinical areas.
The CRF adult nursing team focuses on early phase research and human challenge studies in areas such as neurodegenerative diseases, as well as nutrition, respiratory disease, vaccine, allergy and infection. So an understanding of these requirements would be advantageous.
Working for our organisation
University Hospital Southampton is one of England's largest acute teaching Trusts, offering a wide range of learning and development opportunities to support your career aspirations.
Located on the south coast with an international airport and direct rail links to London, Southampton offers an ideal setting to live and work, with the New Forest, South Downs and Jurassic Coast.
We believe that using technology wisely shows strong time management and commitment to innovation. However, personalising your recruitment application to highlight your unique skills and experiences is crucial. Relying too heavily on generic, AI-generated content instead of drawing from your own strengths and accomplishments may lead to your application being rejected if multiple candidates present identical or similar information.
At UHS, we’re committed to providing a flexible working environment where possible. Whether you are balancing family, study, or your wellbeing with your career, we want to support you so you can help our patients.
At UHS, we proudly champion individuality, recognising that outstanding care is only possible with a diverse, inclusive team. We’re committed to creating an anti-racist, anti-discriminatory environment where everyone feels valued, safe, and empowered to make a meaningful impact in our communities. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences to join us in building a healthcare community where everyone can belong, thrive, and contribute.
Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
As a band 6 research sister, you will demonstrate the ability to use initiative and work independently, being responsible for your own portfolio of studies while maintaining oversight of your team's portfolio of studies. In addition, you will line manage a team of band 4 clinical trial assistants and band 5 registered nurses.
As a Band 6 in the CRF, you will also collaborate with other research teams to deliver research studies and quality improvement initiatives, including audits and projects. You will report to your Band 7 senior research charge nurse and then to the Band 8 research matron.
The successful candidates will have extensive post-registration experience, including considerable senior band 5 experience in clinical research or a relevant clinical speciality and be able to lead independently on a variety of research studies.
Candidates must have a mentorship qualification and have evidence of teaching and supporting learners in practice. This unique role will enable you to develop both your research leadership skills and clinical skills in the context of delivering an exciting portfolio of different studies at UHS.
